Georges Pelletier-d'Oisy was born on March 9, 1892 in Auch.

Responding to a subscription from the army, he became one of the first student pilots on October 14, 1912, and was awarded the military certificate n° 294.

Assigned to the HF (Henry Farman) 19 squadron on July 1, 1913, he flew several reconnaissance missions from the beginning of hostilities. With a reputation as an impetuous pilot, he was recruited by the CDT Tricornot de Rose, who assembled an experimental fighter squadron near Reims, the MS 12, equipped with Morane Parasols, then the fastest aircraft of the conflict. The mission of the pilots was to approach the German planes thanks to their speed so that the observer, armed with a rifle, could fire at the pilot or the tank. The first victory of the squadron was attributed to Jean Navarre, then Georges Pelletier opened his hunting record on April 2, 1915 by allowing his observer, SLT René Chambe, to force a German plane to land in the French lines.

At the end of 1915, he moved to a Nieuport fighter and took part in the battle of Verdun. Naming his aircraft "Pilou-Pilou" as he would do for all his subsequent aircraft decorated with a cat, he won three official victories in May and June 1916, often fighting in the company of his friend Jean Navarre assigned to the N 67.

Promoted to the rank of lieutenant on the Italian front in December 1917 and after more than three years on the front, he was sent to France for a rest on December 30, 1917. He did not return to service until March 1918. He finished the war at the SPA 69 which he joined on October 23, 1918, shortly before the end of the fighting.
