The 587th Bombardment Squadron was part of the 394th Bombardment Group of the USAF. Formed in 1943, the 587th was equipped with B-26 Marauder bombers. It took part in tactical bombing missions in Europe, mainly in support of Allied forces on the ground. The squadron was active in major operations such as the Normandy landings in June 1944 and the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. Despite heavy losses, the 587th continued to carry out missions with bravery until the end of the war. Its courageous service and contributions to the war effort remain an important part of the history of military aviation during the Second World War.
The 587th was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation and the French Croix de Guerre with Palm for bravery and exemplary service.
The history of our "Black Jack" jacket dates back to the summer of 1944, when the U.S. Army introduced the ANJ-2 summer jacket, designed without lining or side panels for optimum flying comfort in hot weather. This little-known jacket was a great success with crews operating in summer and tropical regions.
Here we present an interpretation of this jacket, made entirely in-house.
