We developed this jacket to provide maximum comfort for open cockpit flying.

Tested and approved in winter conditions by the Barnstormer team.

The first Stearman was built in 1933 by the Stearman Aircraft Company. In 1934, the US Army Air Corps decided to acquire a new basic training aircraft. The Stearman met the research criteria and the USAAC immediately ordered 26 of them. The US Navy bought 61 of them at the same time. The Stearman was a very popular aircraft in the United States at the time, with 3510 produced in 1940 alone! Different versions were produced: with different engines, for instrument flight, for agricultural spraying... In all, 3200 aircraft were built for the USAAC and 4575 for the US Navy. They were mainly used for basic training of military pilots. At the end of World War II, a large number of Stearman were sold worldwide.

The Stearman with which we did our development tests for this jacket was built in 1940. It spent its entire career in the US Air Force as a PT-18 (different engine). In 1994, it was acquired by an American owner who changed its engine to a PT-17. In 2012, Aero Vintage Academy acquired it with the aim of offering pilot training on retro aircraft to the general public.
