The Gee Bee Q.E.D. "Quod Erat Demonstrandum"
Nicknamed the "Flying Barrel", the Geebee first won the Thompson Trophy ring in 1932, in the hands of James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle.
It was the most powerful but also the most unstable of the aircraft entered. Jimmy decided to fly higher than his competitors, so he could make full use of the 800hp of the P&W while accommodating the sensitive nature of his mount.
